Simple knitted scarves, beautiful results

About

Mobilidade Plus is a free resource for learning to knit scarves. Every guide on the site is written for people who have never finished a scarf before, or who started one, watched the edges wander, and put it away in a drawer.

What you will find here

  • Easy scarves for a first project, starting with how to knit a scarf for beginners and the classic garter stitch scarf.
  • Original scarf patterns in ribbing, stripes and knit-and-purl textures, each with a stitch count you can change to make the scarf wider or narrower.
  • Stitch guides with written rows and charts for the stitches that suit scarves, such as seed stitch, moss stitch and broken rib.
  • Technique and finishing guides on yarn, needle size, gauge, width and length, neat edges, blocking, fringe and weaving in ends.

If you are new, begin with the four guides under Start Here on the home page, or go straight to the guide to the best yarn for scarves before you shop. The full list is on the Tutorials page.

How the guides are written

Each tutorial explains its abbreviations the first time they appear, writes out every row of the stitch pattern, and shows the arithmetic behind the cast-on number so you can adapt it. Measurements are given in inches and centimeters, yardage in yards and meters, and needle sizes in US and metric sizes.

The patterns on this site are our own. They are built from traditional stitch patterns, such as garter stitch, ribbing and seed stitch, that knitters have shared for generations and that no one owns; the stitch counts, dimensions and wording are written for this site and are not copied from other designers.

Yardage, time and finished sizes are given as estimates, because they change with your yarn, your needles and how tightly you knit. Where a guide refers to the standard yarn weight categories or needle sizes, it links to the organization that publishes them.

The images on this site are simplified illustrations and stitch charts, made to show a stitch pattern, a measurement or the path of the yarn. They are drawings, not photographs of finished scarves. We do not publish invented reviews, ratings or testimonials.

Corrections and suggestions

If a row does not work out, a stitch count looks wrong or a link is broken, please tell us through the Contact page. Accurate instructions matter more to us than anything else on the site, and corrections are always welcome.
